Evolving.

ABC's "Desperate Housewives" stole the Sunday 9 p.m. slot from the network's other hit show, "Alias," which is due to premier in January and run straight through the end of the season (no annoying out-of-sequence episodes to mess you up, since the script is probably the most complicated in primetime television). General blog and viewer comments suggested it might take the place of "Boston Legal," on Sundays at 10 (and IMHO a very stupid show), but that was not to be. The success of DH has moved "Alias" to a new day, Wednesday, though it's still at its old 9 p.m. slot.

During the 9 p.m. hour this last Sunday, a very special promo of Jennifer Garner, alias Sydney Bristow, came on--an expensive, 30-second promo--to tell us that a very special "Alias" is beginning at a very special time on its very special new day in January.

So, Wednesdays at 9, you know where I'll be:

Out. And then when I get home, I'll download it and watch it whenever I feel like. I don't even know what's on TV on Wednesday nights (not football--that I do know) but I do know that Wednesdays are a night for being out, not in, like Sundays.

That's right, spend your wednesdays out and doing stuff, don't let the silly networks decide when you watch stuff

I think the strategy is trying to parlay the success of J.J. Abrams' Lost on Wednesday 8PM into a nice Abrams block which will solidify ratings for both series.

....and just what is Jennifer Garner doing with that Affleck guy? If she keeps it up I'm going to have seriously consider breaking things off with her.

I know she'd be heart-broken and all, but a guy can only take so much.

Yeah, Danny, that's the attitude! (Too bad it doesn't work on Sundays, MNF, or Thursdays.)

History, yeah, I sorta heard that rumor. The thing is, telling me that we're going to have a block of Abrahms TV on Wednesday nights only tells me I'm going to be watching a bunch of similar television, in a row. But maybe it works for other viewers, or maybe it makes the producers happy. I dunno.

Tjesterb, I have to admit that I really don't care much who's dating whom in Hollywood, though I do find it ironic that Jennifer G and Michael V got together off-screen when their on-screen romance was kaput, and broke up just when their on-screen romance should be renewing. There's an overused word for that, and that word is irony.

Wow, as a huge Alias fan this comes as a bit of a surprise for me. But Wednesday is a pretty miserable night for television (can't even think of anything on), so maybe that will help the show do better. Thanks for the news A. Looking forward to it.
