Evolving.

I'm in a bad mood tonight. I could blame my job, my cooking, my husband, the weather, the price of oil, but it's not really any of those. Rather, it's one of those more nebulous, everyone's-an-idiot kind of days that's just gotten to me. I can't shake it.

It started with getting up late. Never a good way to start the day. Then at work, one of my "overworked" coworkers won't let us help her, but we still have to sit there listening to her whine about how busy she is (she's actually just slow). Normally I don't care; if she doesn't want to pass it off, fine by me. But today I didn't have much to do and it was frustrating to listen to her.

At lunch H and I were both crabby--probably due to getting up late. So we planned to make a good dinner tonight. After work, I got stuck behind this idiot who wouldn't drive because talking on her cell phone was more important as she idled ahead of me and all the cars in front of her drove off. Then she ran a red light and I was stuck, fuming, at the intersection. Later someone in a Hummer flipped me off. They were in the oncoming lane and I was minding my own business, driving normally and sanely, so I'm guess it's cause I drive a hybrid. (Gee, my bad.) Then I undercooked the rice noodles and overcooked the tofu, but the coconut curry sauce was (fortunately) right on.

The world decided to oneup me in one day, put me in my mediocre place: My coworker couldn't deign to allow anyone else to touch her perfect work...the driver in front of me was more important than anyone else on the road. The hummer was bigger and burlier than my car. The tofu was...obstinate.

Then I got onto blogosphere and read a bunch of disgusting people's oneupmanship.

You've been to four continents? Well I've been to five. You've gone to war? Me too--twice. You believe in creation? Idiot! Evolution is for the enlightened. You've seen the Berlin wall? Me too, but from both sides. Your kid got an A in his class? Mine got an A+. Something our president did affected you in a good way? Well it affected me in a bad way and here's my sob story.

Gaaaaah! What is wrong with you people? I mean every so often there's an idiot out there who needs to be put in his place--but for you to leave comments like this in response to normal, rational, intelligent people's blogs just shows how disgusting you are as a human being and the fact that you have no respect for other people and their viewpoints, their status in life and their worldview. So you can take your oneupmanship and stick it up your--

Yeah, definitely one of those kinds of moods.

*Blech* Anyone who drives a Hummer clearly has long-standing issues anyway....

I had a similar reaction recently when a blogger got raked over the coals on one thread then went and vomited a series of articles full of obscure references and pseudo-intellectualism that seemed to have no other purpose than to say "Look how much smarter than you I am!" The pathetic thing is, when individuals do things such as this all they prove is the exact opposite.

I don't understand this behaviour either. I've seen it here often. All I tend to do is ignore it and move on, even though this can be difficult. I just want to reach down the line and throttle somebody.

BTW - loved the title. It made me laugh out loud.

You think you're in a bad mood?

Mine's worse

Dunno what motivates them, and they seem totally oblivious to the fact that they are being a boor, (and a bore) so all you can do is grin and bear it (at work) or tell them to stfu

Because it's all about them, the ME factor. That seems to go on a lot everywhere doesn't it.

Sorry you had a bad day Anglo. Like you said, at least the coconut curry sauce was good!

I won't disagree with that. But another blog for another time...and probably another person. I drive a hybrid now but that's not why I hate hummers. I know, though, that if I write about it I'll get tarred with the damn liberal brush, shoehorned into a liberal box, &c.

BTW - loved the title. It made me laugh out loud.

I often take more time to think up a title than to think out what I say in the blog...so, thanks.

Mine's worse

Oh no! Hey, you better have written the next installment of your Paris trip. I'm living vicariously through you for that. I'm headed your way next....

(elsewhere.)

Take the song "that's what friends are for" and insert the word "blog" or "journal" (the one syllabic "blog" is preferred). As for tofu, well, I'm no vegan but I like my tofu (you have to flavor it, though--none of that straight tofu-taste stuff. Coconut-curried tofu is actually pretty good (I, too, had to get over the idea that tofu=gross.).)

Sorry you had a bad day Anglo. Like you said, at least the coconut curry sauce was good!

Thanks. There's always a silver lining. In this case it was a yummy lining that I may very well have for lunch today.

>>My coworker couldn't deign to allow anyone else to touch her perfect work...

I once knew someone like that. They take on too much for themselves and growl anyone who tries to take one from their claimed pile.

>>got onto blogosphere and read a bunch of disgusting people's oneupmanship.

I have to admit I don't read the forums as much anymore. It's as you say. And it feels like a lot of pointless shouting going on, just irritating to the eyes. I might be due for a break from here.

I wouldn't say there's a smile on my face, Bob, if you know what I mean. (Kinda of an "Office space" joke there, sorry.)
