Two teenage girls made cookies and delivered them to people in their neighborhood. The thanks they got? A $900 lawsuit by one of the recipients.

Short version: Girls made cookies and started delivering them around 9 p.m. to houses that had lights on, with little notes that said, "Have a great night. Love, the T & L club" (their initials). They got to this particular recipient's home at about 10:30 p.m. (seems a bit late to me, but it's not like it's two in the a.m.). These houses are a bit rural--outside of Durango, CO--and apparently Ms. Wanita Renea Young freaked out, called the sherriff, then spent the night before going to the hospital which racked up $800+ in medical bills. So she sued the girls in spite of their written apologies and their parents' offers to pay for her medical costs if she'd indemnify them against further damage. (Hey, if the lady's gonna sue over cookies, she'd sue for tripping as she threw the cookies in her trash.)

A fuller version of the story is here: Link

This is wrong on so many levels.
1. That Wanita Renea Young would be scared to look out her front door to see who's standing there.
2. That Wanita Renea Young would panic because someone was knocking in her door. (The extent of the knocking and whether or not it was banging I do not know.)
3. That Wanita Renea Young would wait until the morning to go to the hospital.
4. That Wanita Renea Young would realize this was a good deed gone mildly wrong, and still have the nerve to sue.
5. That a lawyer would take Wanita Renea Young's case.
6. That a JUDGE would take Wanita Renea Young's case instead of binning it like it belongs.
7. That a judge would find two teenage girls (who aren't out smoking, drinking, and getting pregnant and STD-laced) guilty of delivering cookies. (Girls Scouts, beware.)
8. That a judge would make the girls or their families pay the full cost, if any.
9. That Wanita Renea Young can't open her stupid fucking eyes and see how she, personally, is making America a worse place to be in.

America, WAKE UP! Are we really going to sue our neighbors over things like this?

Here's something I found that's reaffirming my faith in humanity. It's the aftermath of this whole ordeal.

Radio station KOA-AM of Denver raised more than $1,900 from listeners Friday to pay the girls' $930.78 fine. The rest of the money will go to a charity dedicated to victims of the Columbine High School massacre.

And even sweeter...

Wanita Young said, ``This has turned into quite a fiasco. It's something that never should have happened and it's just devastating. My phone hasn't stopped ringing. My life has been threatened and I'll probably have to move out of town.''

Something tells me the $900 she won won't be earning her much happiness.

I am glad.

Maybe they've only locked up half the sane people after all......

There is only one thing I'd like to say to her: suck shit.

She sounds like a real loser of a person. I hope she DOES have to move and I hope the idiot judge has hell to pay as well. SOME PEOPLE need to just get real. Anyway, I would love to type more but I am preparing to go sue someone for looking at me in traffic. They scared me! AHHH THE NIGHTMARES!!!!!

This ***** and that idiot judge (a former liar, I mean lawyer, of course) are exactly whats wrong with this country these days. I hope that she chokes on that money. This type of thing is what makes me worry about every time I help someone out with whatever. I just don't do the things for people that I used to do like helping them shovel snow or other things of that nature. Wanita, if you read this, GO TO HELL!

There is info on the originator of the suit available by checking the La Plata (Durango, CO) County Land Records.
Since I'm not sure of the reprint legalities of these "public records", Here's how to find them yourself (for free):
Go to www.laplatainfo.com/search2.html
Enter Search by Owner Name: Last: YOUNG First: WANITA
Click Search
You should get a single record of her and her husband.
Click on Show. You'll get the land record, with mailing address and various other items of interest.

P.S. reinforces the stereotypical meaning of "trailer trash", you'll see.

What disturbs me most when reading it, is that the judge actually ruled to Young's favor

Me too. How ridiculous. My heart goes out to the girls, though. Here they are being charitable and compassionate and what do they get? A kick in the arse. To both the lawyer and the judge: I hope their unscrupulousness comes back to bite them on the arse bigtime.

Thanks for the post.

Cheers,

I still can't believe this crap. This is even worse than a person spilling hot coffee on themself and blaming a company for it being too hot. What's next? A stupid woman driving down the road, putting on makeup, smoking a cigarette, talking on her cell phone and changing her baby in the back seat and she gets in a wreck and its the auto makers fault for not installing auto pilot????

I REALLY hope the woman that filed that lawsuit feels like the total ass that she is. And the judge should feel like a jackass as well. It took her HOW long to go to the hospital? And her 'stress' was connected to the girls 'knocking on her door' HOW? Did she have a history of stress related health problems? I wonder if she would be so stressed if Ed McMahon knocked on her door to give her a fat check. Would she sue him too? What has this woman done to her neighbors to be so stressed anyway? Did other people freak out when they got a knock on the door by these ninja type shadow figures in the night? I hope the girls get on TV, make some good money for themselves and buy a new car and flip this old bitch off everytime they drive by. And I also hope that if her trailer catches fire nobody knocks on her door to warn her of the inpending doom. The knock on the door might stress her out and hinder her escape.

Great article, Angloesque. You may be pleased to know that your article is a big hit in certain White Nationalist forums: www.vnnforum.com/showthread.php?t=15037&highlight=angoesque (sic)

I found this while googling (and any suggestion that I frequent certain websites to balance the left wing media's bias is preposterous, absurd, etc.); it seems they know you by name over at Vanguard News Network ("No Jews. Just Right" - actual motto) forums. Are you some kind of famous White Nationalist? Personally I think it's kinda funny that White Nationalists are linking to JoeUser articles, and while some might suggest this supports my thesis that JoeUser is in fact a hothouse of Nazi thought, nothing could be further from the truth.

Um, that's weird. I don't know anything about that forum, but I wondered where all the anonymous users were coming from. I had to delete one guy's racist comment. Not sure those are the types of people I want agreeing with me. Huh. Great.

Well, cheers. Hope this lady's scared to open her door for a looooooooooooooong time.

I'd write this woman a letter telling her what a despicable specimen she is, but I'm afraid that might give her a stroke and then she'd sue me.
on Feb 07, 2005
Yay! She should have to leave town.
on Feb 07, 2005
What a nightmare! It's horrible when bad things happen to good people. I think Wanita was just looking for an excuse to go see the doctor. The judge should have thrown this case out, geech!
on Feb 07, 2005
Please don't post her address here. While I find her despicable, I don't condone any violence toward her, nor would I want any to come by her from information other people have found at this site.

And funny: This morning, when I got back, I realized that it's not her I'm so mad at. People will always be stupid and that's why we have the Darwin Awards. But my anger was misplaced and should be directed at the (1) lawyer who took this, and (2) the judge who allowed it, and (3) the judge who handed down the incredibly asinine ruling. THOSE are the worst offenders because they are the filters meant to weed this garbage out of our law system.
